These photographs are from that period in the early 1970s when the drive for the wholesale destruction and redevelopment of generally poorer urban areas was at its' most potent. . The redevelopment of Poplar began as a post war reconstruction that had at its heart the best of social intentions but it eventually became a mania that swept away street after street of Victorian Cottages when all they needed was a thorough refurbishment ,or so it seemed to me. Post WW2 prefabs were still to be seen, ocuppied and apparently often liked by their owners.
